Walks Manager
If you are a new walk leader before trying to access Walks Manager (WM) please first
All of our registered Walk Leaders have access to WM to add walks to our programme.
Walks need approval before publication. WM is very flexible and gives you the option to make last minute changes to your walks yourself.
First access Walks Manager.
When you are logged in for the first time please make sure you read the guidance document. You will find links to short videos that will help you. All the links you need are on the first page you open.
Capital Walkers specific requirements
- First update your contac preferences (top right hand corner under the person icon). There is no need to give permission to contact you by email, we just ask that you give permission for your mobile to be displayed on your walk. Note that although an email contact button is always displayed on the walk it is a default CW email address.
- You now have to add a finishing time to your walk. I use an estimate of 2 miles per hour to include breaks, but feel free to vary that if you wish, but always better to overestimate a finishing time than underestimate it. Please finish your walk description with: “The finishing time is an estimate only and will be dependent on a number of factors, such as weather, the speed at which the group walks and the number of breaks taken."
- Please add your train information to “Additional Information” using our standard format: "Take the xx.xx train from London Station, arriving Destination Station at yy.yy." Mention any changes of train required and give ticketing information if necessary.
- When you add a starting and finishing point you will find all railway stations are listed. For example, just start typing East Croydon Railway Station and it will appear in a list for you to select it. There should be no need to adjust the location of the map pin as mentioned in the Ramblers Walk Manager guide. Please also add the station name to the “Location Details” box. Here, you can also add any specific meeting place, eg “East Croydon Railway Station. Meet beside the bike racks to the right hand side of the main entrance.”
- Please also add details of any drop-out points, or say none if appropriate.
- Then please then add any booking information if appropriate. State "No booking required" if appropriate. Many groups still require places to be booked and new walkers may otherwise wonder what to do.
- Please add a picture or two to your submission if you can, but be mindful of copyright issues if you copy a picture from the internet. Better to use your own taken when you do the recce.
- Please email Wendy to have your walk published. We get no automatic notification that you have submitted a walk.
It's no longer necessary to submit a written risk assessment but you should consider the risks that a walk may pose and plan accordingly to avoid, mitigate or manage e.g., crossing busy main roads or railway lines, difficult terrain, natural or built environment hazards.
