All walk leaders should complete the Ramblers Walk Leading Foundations Course which you can access from the Ramblers online training webpage. To access the walk leader training (and other resources) you’ll need to set up a My Ramblers Account. If you’re a member or access our routes library, you’ll already have an account. If not, set one up then make sure you check your email inbox to verify it. If you are new to volunteering with the Ramblers you will need to be added to the Ramblers’ systems as a volunteer. Email our Walk Leader Champion (link below) to be added. Expenses for Recce-ing a walk are available in line with the Recce Expenses Policy.

There are lots of ways to find a walk to lead for Capital Walkers:

Example Introductory Script
The following example covers the key areas that need to be considered when addressing the group at the start of a walk.
- Welcome to this Capital Walkers walk today, I am --------- your walk leader. Today we are walking to ---------- (plus details you wish to share, e.g. lunch, safety, roads etc).
• This is a GROUP WALK, and we are going to walk as a group, enjoying our surroundings and the companionship of fellow walkers. Please look after each other and let myself or the back marker ---------- (and mid marker if appropriate) know if you are leaving the walk or need any support.
• Capital Walkers is a Rambler's Group and is run by volunteers. We do need members to come forward and lead walks in order to keep our program full and varied. Please talk to myself, a committee member or look at the CW website if you would like to help in this way. We will support you with everything you need to know and do including training sessions.
• Any new walkers to our group here today? You are very welcome, I hope you enjoy the walk and that we see you again.
• If you are new to Ramblers, you are welcome to join us for 3 walks before we ask that you join.
