If you have been watching the Pilgrimage series on TV, you may have considered walking a pilgrimage route yourself. The good news is you can do a pilgrimage and you don’t even need your passport! On this trip, you will have the opportunity to walk part of the St Peter’s Way in Essex, to the ancient chapel of St Peter-on-the-Wall at Bradwell-On-Sea, the extreme, eastern tip of Essex on the Dengie Peninsula. The St Peter’s Way was conceived by members of the Ramblers Association and goes through some lovely Essex villages. Like all hardy pilgrims you will need to carry your overnight bag in your rucksack. Please note this is a non-religious pilgrimage.
The itinerary
- Day 1, Catching an early train from Liverpool St to Southminster Railway Station, we will walk 11 miles, picking up the St Peter’s Way en route, which leads us to Bradwell-on-Sea along the King Charles III coastal path;
- Day 2, Leaving Bradwell we will walk 16 miles along the River Blackwater, re-joining the St Peter’s Way before returning to Southminster (there may be an earlier exit point to make the walk a shorter 8 miles, but this will involve you reserving a taxi in advance to take you to Southminster. We can advise on this).
